We Shall Eat and Drink Again — Golding & Simon
Food and wine have always been about more than simply eating and drinking. They have long been woven into everyday life, culture, memory and the stories people share. We Shall Eat and Drink Again: A Wine & Food Anthology brings together a collection of writings and stories centred around this enduring subject.
Featuring the writing of Louis Golding alongside André L. Simon’s deep interest in food and wine, this book has a character quite different from that of a conventional cookbook. Rather than focusing on recipes, it explores the world of food and wine through literary pieces, essays and glimpses into the food culture of its time, offering an enjoyable look at the ways in which eating and drinking have long been connected with pleasure, memory, social life and culture.
The book is made all the more charming by the small, delightful illustrations found throughout its pages. There is a relaxed and gently playful atmosphere to this kind of vintage food and wine book — something that makes it enjoyable not only to read, but also to leave on a coffee table or bookshelf and dip into from time to time.
The paper and printing are in very good condition, with the pages remaining clean and well preserved despite the book’s age. The illustrations are also particularly well kept, adding to the pleasure of turning through the pages. A charming choice for anyone with an interest in food and wine, literary ephemera, or the character of vintage books.
