1921년, 영국 버밍엄에서 만들어진 작은 실버 잉크웰입니다.
오늘날에는 펜 하나만 집어 들어도 바로 글을 쓸 수 있지만, 한때 글을 쓴다는 것은 조금 더 많은 준비가 필요한 일이었습니다. 책상 위에는 펜촉과 종이, 그리고 잉크가 담긴 작은 용기가 함께 놓여 있었습니다.
이 잉크웰 역시 그런 시간을 위해 만들어졌습니다.
뚜껑을 열면 내부에는 잉크를 담는 유리 실린더가 자리하고 있습니다. 한 세기가 지난 지금까지도 이 유리 라이너가 잘 보존되어 있어, 단순히 바라보는 오브제를 넘어 당시와 같은 방식으로 다시 사용할 수 있다는 점이 특히 매력적입니다.
1921년이라는 제작 시기도 흥미롭습니다. 이미 만년필이 널리 사용되기 시작한 시대였지만, 잉크를 직접 찍어 사용하는 오래된 필기의 방식 역시 여전히 사라지지 않았습니다. 이 작은 잉크웰은 서로 다른 시대의 필기 문화가 잠시 함께 머물던 시간을 보여줍니다.
홀마크를 통해 1921년, 영국 버밍엄 제작임을 확인할 수 있습니다. 제작자의 마크 역시 남아 있지만, 아쉽게도 오랜 사용과 시간의 흐름으로 마모되어 현재는 정확한 제작자를 확인하기 어렵습니다.
그러나 무엇보다 마음에 드는 것은 그 크기입니다.
책상 한가운데를 차지하는 커다란 잉크스탠드가 아니라, 오늘의 책상 한쪽에 조용히 놓아둘 수 있는 작은 크기. 책과 노트 사이에 두고 필요할 때 뚜껑을 열어 사용할 수도 있고, 사용하지 않는 순간에는 빛을 반사하는 작은 실버 오브제로 남습니다.
한 세기 전 누군가의 책상 위에 놓여 있었을 작은 잉크웰이 오늘 다시 우리의 책상 위에 놓인다고 생각하면, 괜히 펜촉을 잉크에 적셔 글을 써보고 싶어집니다.

본 제품은 실버 클리너를 사용한 1차 폴리싱 작업을 마쳤으며, 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 형성된 자연스러운 파티나는 과도하게 제거하지 않고 그대로 보존했습니다. 제품의 아름다운 상태와 수명을 오래 유지하기 위해 실버 클리너의 잦거나 과도한 사용은 권장하지 않습니다.
사용하지 않을 때에는 밀폐된 지퍼백에 넣어 공기와의 접촉을 최소화하여 보관해 주세요. 필요할 경우 부드러운 실버 폴리싱 천으로 가볍게 닦아 관리해 주세요.

Hand wash only. Do not use a dishwasher.
Wipe gently with a soft cloth and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners and excessive polishing,
as these may damage the original finish or patina.
Unless specifically stated, vintage metal pieces are not recommended for direct food contact.

Hand wash only. Do not use a dishwasher or microwave.
Use a soft sponge or cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners and sudden temperature changes. Fine crazing and small age-related marks may naturally occur in vintage ceramics. Due to age and previous use, some pieces may not be recommended for food use. Please check the individual product description.

Hand wash gently. Do not use a dishwasher unless specifically stated. Avoid sudden temperature changes and abrasive cleaners. For older or delicate pieces, use for display rather than food or beverage service unless otherwise stated.

Condition regularly with a suitable wood oil. Avoid prolonged moisture and keep away from direct sunlight to help preserve the wood’s natural colour and finish.
