Dean은 런던 남부 Newington에서 Edward Dean이 시작한 영국의 측정 도구 제조사로, 19세기 중반부터 테일러와 재봉사를 위한 측정용 줄자를 제작했습니다. 이후 Dean, Lerro & Co.를 거쳐 Dean이라는 이름으로 이어졌으며, Dean의 줄자는 오랫동안 영국에서 실용적인 측정 도구로 사용되었습니다.
유연하고 내구성이 좋은 fibreglass tape를 사용하며, 줄자를 당겨 사용한 뒤 손잡이를 돌리면 케이스 안으로 다시 감겨 들어가는 self-winding 방식으로 만들어졌습니다.
테이프가 시작되는 부분에는 ‘VMH’라는 이니셜이 각인되어 있어, 이 물건이 실제 사용자의 소유물이었음을 짐작하게 하는 작은 디테일을 더합니다. 황동 케이스에는 세월에 따른 자연스러운 색감과 사용 흔적이 남아 있으며, 실용적인 도구이면서도 당시의 제작 방식과 디자인을 보여주는 흥미로운 빈티지 오브제입니다.
