Silver & Stone Inkwell, 1922
An antique silver inkwell made in Birmingham, England, in 1922.
Its most distinctive feature is the reddish cabochon stone set at the centre of the lid. Against the restrained silver form, it adds a subtle, almost jewellery-like detail. Opening the lid reveals a beautifully preserved gilded interior, with remarkably little wear or loss.
The hallmarks inside the lid remain crisp and clearly legible, confirming its Birmingham origin and 1922 date. A maker's mark is also present, though too worn to identify with certainty.
The original glass liner is currently missing, and we are sourcing a suitably sized replacement to restore the inkwell's original function. A small reminder that even the most practical desk objects were once made with beauty in mind.

All vintage objects carry natural signs of use and traces of time accumulated over the years. This pair has received an initial polish using silver cleaner, while its naturally developed patina has been carefully preserved rather than excessively removed. To preserve the beauty and longevity of the pieces, frequent or excessive use of silver cleaner is not recommended. When not in use, please store them away from prolonged exposure to air. When needed, gently polish with a soft silver polishing cloth.
