A charming vintage oak book rack, made in England, with a clever slot-together design.
The two curved side supports and horizontal oak panels create a simple, sculptural form, while the warm oak grain gives the piece a sense of depth and character. Designed to hold books, it is both practical and visually distinctive. Its compact proportions make it easy to place on a desk, shelf or side table, while the unusual construction adds a little more interest than a conventional book rack.
When we acquired the piece, we were told that it may originally have been used in a church. Although this history cannot be independently confirmed, it offers an interesting glimpse into the kind of everyday setting this practical piece may once have belonged to.
The body is marked: MADE IN ENGLAND PAT. No. 31965/31 The number “31” is understood to refer to the year of production, while “31965” is believed to be the patent number. The original patent record and manufacturer have not yet been identified, but these markings make the piece particularly interesting.
Its distinctive construction is appealing in itself, and the production mark adds a further sense of history and individuality.

𓉞 T.C.C Notes
The book rack is in very good vintage condition, with the natural oak grain and softly aged colour beautifully preserved. There are some minor signs of age and use, as expected from a vintage piece, but no significant damage was noted. Please refer to the detailed photographs for a closer look at its condition.
The wood has received an initial polishing treatment. We have retained the naturally developed texture and signs of age rather than removing them through excessive restoration, allowing the original character of the oak to remain visible.
To maintain the wood’s condition and finish, occasional oil polishing is recommended. Please avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and moisture. The rack should be assembled and dismantled with care, without forcing or twisting the individual pieces. It is intended for holding standard-sized books, and excessive weight should be avoided.
